CHARITE MEDICAL VR TRAINING
In collaboration with Charite, one of Europe’s largest university hospitals, we developed an innovative virtual surgery room designed to transform medical training. This immersive experience leverages advanced volumetric video technology to place users directly inside a highly realistic surgical environment, purpose-built for VR-based learning. At the core of the project is Volucap’s cutting-edge volumetric capture system, capable of recording over 3,000 megapixels of 3D data. Using a custom-built multi-camera setup, every movement is captured with exceptional precision, resulting in lifelike digital humans and environments that significantly enhance immersion. Compared to traditional 3D modeling, this approach creates a far more authentic connection between the real and virtual worlds. Within the experience, a virtual expert guides users step by step through essential procedures. Trainees can observe and learn key tasks-such as putting on surgical gloves or preparing the operating table-from a first-person perspective, as if standing directly beside a professional in the operating room. By combining realism with interactivity, this solution enables users to practice and refine their skills in a safe, controlled, and highly realistic environment-opening new possibilities for the future of medical education.
